Hi,

I am submitting and 3D Max Design 2014 scene with VRay 2.40 which takes 20mins to render over backburner. On Smedge it is able to render the first frame fine. When the engines go to render the next frame, some just take too long and then timeout, others finish fine and then move onto the next, but at some point get stuck.

Any help will be great.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi

On the machines that timeout, what do you see in the captured output from those jobs? Also, if you look at the Engine Product Options for 3DS Max, does it have the "Copy Scene Locally" check box checked? Are you overriding this in your Job?

Max has several issues that can manifest, especially under heavy loads on a file server. You can try using the Stagger Start feature in Smedge to offset the work start times, which can help alleviate file server load, but Max itself can start to fail if too many nodes are opening the same scene file at the same time. The Copy Scene Locally option exists for this, which tells Smedge to make a local copy of the scene file. It should still correctly render to the right path and find the texture image files, while avoiding the Max issue.

If that doesn't help, contact and let's arrange a time to do remote support. Thanks.
