Oops. Well, so far there are two relatively minor but annoying issues that have popped up on Macs. The first is that the Submit License dialog box in SmedgeGui does not allow you to select and copy the Master ID code. This means you either need to type it in by hand, or use a Windows or Linux box to run SmedgeGui to connect to the Master and display the ID.

The other is more annoying. The Mac installer creates a link to the executable file in the /usr/bin folder, and the daemon startup script uses this link. This allows you to install Smedge in other places besides /Applications. The problem is that the program doesn't know it is being started from a link and looks for the Modules and writes the MachineLogs into the wrong folder (into the root folder /, actually).

To get around this installer bug, or to manually install the daemon files, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Terminal utility
  2. Type the command:
    sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/Smedge*
  3. Copy the patched SmedgeMaster.plist and SmedgeEngine.plist files into the /Library/LaunchDaemons folder.
  4. Type the command:
    sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/Smedge*

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please let me know if you have any questions or find any other issues with Smedge 3 version 2.4.

Thanks
-robin
