The new Smedge is here! This new version includes several great new features. But, the most important is that Smedge is now capable of being licensed per actual minute of use. And to get things rolling, we are giving away free render time for trying the beta!

If you are a freelancer or boutique studio and just need to render a project, you can pay for the amount of render time you actually use to render, or you can set up some cloud nodes for added render power in a crunch. If you are a larger shop, you can buy a block of hours for a large render project, or use points to track and bill render time to clients.

Besides the licensing, here are some other cool features:

* Support for Mistika VR
* Ability to list, restore and remove archived deleted jobs
* New View Filtering
* Additional and improved hang, crash and error detection systems
* Specific optimizations for After Effects rendering in large production
* More options to optimize distribution for your environment
* Improved GUI look and performance
* Search/Replace options in the $(Name) variable substitution system

You can see a full list of new features and changes here:

To clarify, the new version of Smedge will support both the legacy license system, with your permanent licenses under updated support, and the new point license system, licensing nodes by the minute. You can even run them both at the same time. By default the engine will try for a legacy license first, and fall back to a point license if available.

Beta progress has been great, and the program is looking awesome. I have a bit more work to finish on the web site in order to support the new point licensing along with the legacy licensing. I am planning to release by October 10, if all goes well!

Thank you, and see you in Smedge
