Naming issue?

Hey, just tried this software out and I'm really impressed by it, as it saves me a lot of time rendering!
However I seem to have some sort of naming issue. I Export the image sequence as an .tif file, but when the images then apprears in the folder, it looks like this:
http://imgur.com/2cz2FBj
As you can see, the image number comes after the file type, thus making it unable to open. Of course, I could just rename it and it would work, but I have a 800 frame scene in progress and I'd rather not rename every single frame.
Any tips?
Edit: Perhaps worth adding I'm rendering with Maya, Mental Ray.

Hi
There is a setting in the Maya render globals to position where the frame number goes. In the "File Output" section, look at the "Frame/Animation ext" field, and set it to: name.#.ext
Thanks,
