The next Smedge is almost ready. This is still "beta" and I am still finishing a few things, mostly documentation updates and such. All major features for the final release are now implemented, including a whole new API and display system for the Job History that takes the pathetically slow and ugly history interface and makes it nearly instantaneous, and adds better statistics to both the GUI and the command line Job History display.
It fixes a few other little issues found in beta 1 as well.
Here are the links to download:
Windows:
http://www.uberware.net/download/Win32/Smedge2014-b2.zip
Linux:
http://www.uberware.net/download/linux64/Smedge2014-b2_x64.tar.gz
Mac:
http://www.uberware.net/download/Mac/Smedge2014-b2.zip
These are all still simple archives of the product. You can unzip and run the program from wherever you need. On Windows, you may need to install the Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 runtime, available from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679
(This requirement will be eliminated when the final release is made with the MSI installer).
As before, Mac and Linux builds are native 64 bit. Mac requires OS-X 10.5 or later, Intel only. Linux is built on CentOS 6 for Intel CPUs, and should run on most distributions as is, but can be built on any reasonably recent Linux distribution and can be built 32 bit or PowerPC if needed (contact me for details). The Windows build is still currently 32 bit but will run normally on 64 bit Windows and can control 64 bit rendering applications just fine.
As before, you can run this version on up to 3 nodes with no license code installed, or you can run it with any license that has valid support.
Please let me know if you run into any issues with this new version. Thank you for your support and see you in Smedge!

After Updated to Beta 2, the Help About box still says Beta 1. Is this a non-updated GU thing, or is it actually not the correct upload?

Oops, I forgot to actually change the version number in the about box.
You can tell if you're running beta 2 by the job history view. If it has the same multi-colored lines as the main lists and works fast instead of slowly loading like the old version, you're using the new build.
Sorry about that. I will update the about box and re-upload the builds tomorrow, just in case. Thanks for pointing that out. Boy do I feel silly.

No problem really, we had a timeout bug with beta 1 and beta 2 seems to have fixed it.

Please let me know if you see any issues at all with the beta. I would prefer to view them directly with the remote support tool, if possible, so I can ensure they are resolved before the final release.
Thank you,

I'm not sure if this is related to 2014 or not, but I've noticed a couple of machines are reporting the wrong amount of RAM (both are reporting 4GB when it should be 12 & 16).
- Rhodri.
Edit: not an issue, the nodes just needed to be restarted twice for some reason.

The only very minor issue I've come across is you can no longer select multiple engines and right click to select options for them all at once (using the top toolbar still works fine with several selected).

Hi. Thanks for the update. I had tried to fix a different right click bug in the list, and added this new one instead. I'm sorry. I will fix this before the final release.
By the way, if you right click while holding down control (command on Mac) or shift, it will work as expected. But it should work without those as well, if the item is already selected.

Will we need to request a new license after installing the Beta version?

Is anyone else having trouble with the Smedge Engine service not always starting up despite being set to automatic start?

Hi
@Billy: You do not need to install a new license code to use the beta version, as long as your support has not expired. Even if your support has expired, Smedge 2014 now runs on up to 3 machines with no license installed, so you can try it out that way too.
@Ricky: If you are having a problem with the services, please contact so I can take a look directly.
Thanks,
-robin
