This would be helpful so that I can quickly know the IP address to ping or to remote control.

you can use the GUI and VNC to engine
setup GUI to execute a comand of your choise for conneting
vnc or remote desktop ..

Or maybe setup your network to use names of machines correctly so you will have no need to use IP numbers. They are good for machines not for humans :)
