Hi everyone

As I had mentioned in a previous post, we are changing the Smedge branding to remove the complicated and confusing version numbers. In order to keep things understandable, we are going to an annual release schedule, and using the year as the version number. This means that Smedge 3 version 2.5 (the current beta release) is going to be rebranded as Smedge 2010. The official release date will be December 1st.

We will be moving to an annual release cycle, much like how many of the products we support work. The exact release schedule will be shifting a bit, because it's better to get the big releases out in time for the fall production season to begin, so Smedge 2011 will probably be released earlier in the year next year.

This annual release cycle will simplify your life. Not only will it be much clearer which version of Smedge you are using, it will be simpler to know what your support contract is actually getting you, and it will be possible to sync your Smedge upgrade schedule with the upgrade schedule of other annual release products, such as Maya or 3D Studio Max.

I'm interested in hearing your comments on this new annual schedule. Please let me know what you think, especially if you have any concerns about how this will affect your current support or your current pipeline.

Thanks
-robin

No, we are not changing the licensing or support model at this time. This is just a simplification of the Smedge version numbering, and a standardization of our release schedule. By 2011, we plan to be on an annual fall release of the next year's version of Smedge.

If and when we do many any changes to our licensing or support systems, there will be notice given here of the change, and you will be able to see the changes on the Smedge pricing web page:

Oh, and "we" are Uberware, even if the staff size is only 1 full time employee at the moment....

Thanks
